Is grit a necessary supplement for chickens that are allowed to mill around outside the coop/run? Ours have the run of the yard most of the day and forage in all sorts of area. They're 10 weeks old now, and I'm wondering if I should be giving them some of the hard stuff.

They get grit from the rocks and pebbles around the coop, which is nature's grit.

I throw out some grit about once a month, and not that much...they will take it if they need it. Not an expense for sure. Also throw out a bit of oyster shell about twice a month..again their choice...my eggs are wonderful, hens are doing well.
