Is he worth breading?

This is my little man, Tails. He is a very good boy. He doesn’t attack me, but he does bite my husband. He is very protective of my girls

. But I am the person I bought him from turned out to be completely untrustworthy. Sometimes he will grow 1 partly white feather on his butt. It quickly goes away but it still really bothers me.
My husband and I have recently decided to start hatching our own eggs, mostly for personal use. And if someone wants my chicks and asks me how can I honestly say if he is actually a red? I don’t want to lie to someone as I was lied to....
No worries about his comb, it got bitten off when he was a baby. And no worries about the girls, we have new one from a new set in our baby box.

I guess it depends on what you're trying to produce. If you want to sell show birds then he may not be your best option, but if you are selling for backyard chicken keepers, I think personality goes a long way. Hopefully his offspring would be nice birds like him.

How was the person you bought the rooster from untrustworthy?

If you are referring to the rooster growing a white feather, I am not sure you can hold the breeder responsible. There are genetic mutations and all kinds of other things. In chicken breeding you can be breeding chickens of one color and sometimes get a chicken of another color. They call it a sport.

It looks like a nice Rhode Island Red rooster. But if that one white feather bothers you, do not breed this rooster. Buy another rooster to breed.

I bought 30 eggs from her. She gave me 16 chicks and told me that she gave me 14 girls and 2 boys. I found out later that she gave me 14 boys and 2 girls.
Later I buy 12 laying hens. She had them already crated when I picked them up. We got home and started looking at the girls. 1 was sick and never made it into the coop. 4 had state vet records that the girls had the same birthday as my girls And the rest was too old to lay. 1 had state records that said that she was 6 when I got her. And one died 2 days after I bought her home.

I think your rooster is fine. It is clearly a Rhode Island Red. You can feel comfortable telling people that.

And yes, I have not bought anything from her nor will I ever again. And she even has the Purina anniversary signs I want but I refuse to buy them from her....
