This is Marshmallow, she was coming in last night and I noticed she was hopping and then just stopped and laid down. Her leg was a little swollen yesterday but today is a lot worse. She was in our neighbors yard where she doesn’t usually go so I’m not sure what she could have gotten into. She is still eating and I have her inside in a kennel. The last picture of her laying down she is leaning towards the hurt side. She doesn’t make anything more than her usual soft chirps when I touch it or try to move it. :hit

I'm sorry no one responded to your post :hugs

How is Marshmallow doing?

It's hard to know if the leg is broken or not, but it is quite swollen. Hopefully by now the swelling has gone down. Do you notice if there is more swelling around the thigh or can you see any cuts/scrapes?
If you haven't done so, give her a daily soak in a warm epsom salts bath to help reduce swelling.

I’m glad that WyorpRock answered your thread. Is there anything that could have gotten wrapped around the leg, such as a piece or string, a hair, or a leg band?
If not, it looks like she had a bad sprain or broken bone from all the swelling. I would cage her in a dog crate or basket with food and water nearby and easy to reach. A chicken chair ir sling might be something to try after some of the swelling goes down. Is a vet a possibility to get an xray?

Thanks for the replies! The swelling got worse but has gone WAY down today. She’s standing and moving around a bit more, and she curls her toes when I touch them now so I think she just needed some time off of it. She is inside in a kennel with food and water so she can recuperate and relax. I haven’t done the epsom salt bath so I’ll start that today.

Poor thing. Let us know if the salt bath makes any difference.

Glad she is resting her leg, and that the swelling was less. I would continue to do what works best for her. If you think a chicken sling or chair would benefit her, the link below has pictures of some that people have made in post # 5. Some chickens will try to get out of them, but they can be helpful to get them upright and to be able to reach food and water sat in front of them. Of course they should get out frequently to stretch and sleep. Here is the link:

She’s doing much better. Putting weight on her leg and trying to jump out of the tub when she gets her baths. During the day when it’s nice I put her outside in our large dog kennel without the bottom tray so she can enjoy the outdoors and move a bit more without getting picked on by the older girls.

Sounds like she is on the road to recovery! Thank you for the update, please keep us posted on her progress:)
