Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

Well, now your going to have to post pics as they grow up so we can see how they turn out! :) Just too adorable, little fuzz butts.
I hadn't thought to listen for peeping! Can you really hear them peeping INSIDE the egg?? This is just getter neater by the day! I'll go out and listen and see. I've been checking for pipping(am I using that word right?,little holes or breaks in the eggs by the air pocket) but nothing yet. I put all of them on a flashlight again yesterday and I can definitely see 9 eggs with lots of movement in them.
I'm going to use a basket for the nest I think (in the new maternity ward) the basket is the same size as their old nest and not too short or tall, I figured I could drape a folded up old sheet over the handle for privacy, and I use dried grass clippings for nesting material so they should be mosty toasty and comfy in there. ANY DAY NOW....I can't stand the wait!

Silkie- You came to the right place to ask a Q about broody mama hens and their chicks! I'd be a nervous wreck by now if it weren't for ann's good advice!

OOOHHH! I went out to listen for peeping and they are peeping!!!! Two are already cracking out of the egg!! I'm heading back out to watch and take some pics if I can! Oh joy, babies are coming! I'm crazy I know to be so excited about an egg hatching but I just can't help it!

I'm not sure. I can keep each hen with chicks in separate areas. We have a divider in our brooder box. What about taking the divider out and letting 2 hens and all 12 chicks live in the same space?

You could do that if the chickens dont try to kill each other...

They probabably wont but just keep an eye on them.

OOps! Sorry, Anna :) You really have been a big help tho!
And here's the results! Oh they are just so cute! And so tiny! Pics 1-3 are the first chick and 4 and 5 are the second one. The first is grayish colored and the second is more yellow. Only the two have hatched so far and the other eggs haven't started cracking yet but they definitely still have movement in them. I went ahead and left the two new babies with mama and the other eggs for now cause they all seem to be fitting without any problems. Mama has the babies tucked up underneath her. Somehow the two mamas have moved all the little eggs that are ready to hatch under the one and the other is sitting on some eggs from the big hens that they laid before I blocked off the maternity ward. I figure I'll just let her sit on them. Maybe she'll go another 21 or so days and hatch some of them?? I'd love it if some of the EE eggs hatched! I put food and water in there so if mama got up she wouldn't have to go far and let the babies get cold.

You should give the chicks to one of the hens and if the other one is determined enough than she will sit on the rest of the eggs till they hatch, if not try it with the other one and if none of the want to, well...
I am expecting chicks on the 27th, i had originally put 13 eggs under the hen but when she got up to eat, drink and go to the bathroom other chickens would go in there and lay more eggs and i forgot to mark the ones that i had put under her and now she has 22 eggs.

We 'll see how many hatch and the rest i will put under my other broody and see if any hatch. I will take some pictures of my chicks and send them to you today or tomorrow because you said i have to, so you can see how they turn out.

If any more chicks hatch than you have to send some pics to and i want to see how they turn out as well.

I went out to move the babies to the other mama and they did the switching around for me!

The one that hatched them (Ginger) is only sitting on eggs now and the other mama (Georgie) has the new chicks under her and no eggs. Now Georgie was pretty fierce about her eggs and she's even more so now that those chicks are under her. She pecked the heck out of me when I looked under her. I checked Ginger's eggs and one of them was actually making a clicking noise inside but no cracks yet. AND there's only five of her eggs left when there were seven! What could have happened to the other two??? There's no shells or pieces of anything. Could she have ate them?

I looked everywhere and can't figure it out.
I'll be sure to keep posting pics! I don't have anyone else to be excited with! Except my mom :) I already sent her pics of her new grandchicks. And now I'm excited about your eggs hatching! I might look into getting some fertile eggs to put under the mamas next time they go broody. Or sooner if they keep it up, I don't know how long they stay like this. It might be the only way for me to get the other breeds of chickens I've been wanting! Eggs are a lot easier to sneak past my DH!

He said I've hit my chicken limit. We'll see about that!
