Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

Oh you are so lucky, my chickens never do the switching on their own...

I dont know what could of happened to the other two eggs, i have had a chicken eat an egg that she was sitting on but she had the shell in her nest still.

I dont mind being the only one that you can be excited with, when my chicks hatch you are going to be the only one i can be excited with. I have the pictures ready and i am going to post them tomorrow.
You can NEVER hit your chicken limit i say.

By tomorrow you will probably have a couple more little chicks and if Ginger is up to it you can put some new eggs under her, i say put some silkies, i love silkies they are so funny looking and soft. Talk to you tomorrow.

Here is a before and after picture.
What can happen in 15 days...

Ok i admit it, the last one is a phony, i just happened to take a picture of one of my roosters.

I think i laughed a bit more than i should have.
How are the chicks doing?

LOL! Crackin me up. Your rooster is handsome! He looks like a sunset!
It's hard to believe how quick the little chicks grow! Until you're waiting for that first egg or crow, then they seem to go in slow motion! Here's some of my hatchery chicks, first day and then at 4 weeks (last week).

Another new chick! That's 3 now. The other pic is Georgie and one of the first chicks peeking out. I thought it was cute. The newest chick was still wet when I went in there to check and Ginger was off the nest so I put the new one close to Georgie and she tucked it up under her. That's when the other one peeked out, like what's going on? You can see all the eggs in the nest with that newly hatched chick. That's what Ginger is sitting on now. I'm going to give them a week (if she keeps sitting on them) and check to see if any are fertile. I still can't get over how tiny they are!

Oh they are adorable.
I have three roosters that look like that and two that are white.

I have never hatched chicks with an incubator and i am going to order a brinsea mini advance and the brinsea brooder and today i made another candler,( because my dog chewed on my last candling box) and i am going to candle 12 eggs that my hen has been sitting on for a week.
Wish me luck, i only have 12 chicks and i am expecting a couple on Monday but i really hope these are fertile.
My candler isnt the prettiest but it works https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/785027/my-homemade-candler

Lucky! I just love roos! and you've got 5! I've only got Pickles unless my new SSHamburg chick turns out to be a roo(I think he will be, his comb is already red).
Double lucky to be getting an incubator and a brooder! Your candler looks like it works pretty good! I think as long as something gets the job done what's it matter what it looks like? You should've seen my brooder! Ugly but efficient! And now I've adapted it to make more room for the bigger chicks until they can be outside all the time. Looks like one of those covered wagons but wire instead of canvas. Looks horrid but the chicks love it.

No more peeps yet. I put the last few on the flashlight again while Ginger was up and I can only see movement in one of them now. So I think at least one more will hatch. The big girls managed to break into the maternity ward and laid more eggs in the nest! I'll leave those but I fixed it so they can't do it again! I'm going to make up a candler with the light and box like you did to candle the new eggs. I found some pics of fertile eggs to compare so I know which to keep. Plus it'll come in handy when my hatchery chicks get old enough to breed. I plan on some more picasso chicks from them when they get older! I found a chick calculator and I've been trying different crosses to see what I might be able to get with the breeds I've got. The fun just keeps going!!!
Fingers are crossed for your hatch!

Can't wait to see who cracks out!

Yeah i love roos to, i find they are friendlier than chickens. I love brinsea and i was going to get the ova view and ova scope candlers but than since the box worked so well i decided not to throw my money away. Do you have a heat lamp in your brooder or a little brinsea brooder? If you try the box candling thing than you can see the whole egg, it is totally awesome. If you know what eggs they laid than you can take them inside and eat them for breakfast since they are fresh.

I didnt candle them in the end because i realized that the hen that was due on the 27th wasnt in her nest and there was another chicken laying eggs in it. They probably wont hatch now because i havent seen her in the nest since yesterday... She had already tried once but none hatched so we put new ones under her and she probably got bored. I will put the eggs under my other hen and see what happens. I will send so more pics tomorrow if i remember.

I actually used my DH's work light(like a flood light with a wire cage around it and a stand underneath) and it worked PERFECT. I put an old thermostat in there to keep an eye on the temp and it held steady at 92 degrees. I just turned it off for longer and longer as they grew and I don't use it at all now. My brooder is one of those pet carrier's for x-large dogs. I unscrewed the top from the bottom then connected them together with some duct tape. I also put duct tape across the lowest set of vent holes so they couldn't kick so much bedding out. Then I made a lid from chicken wire and a long piece of 1x1. The light set right on the chicken wire at one end. That way if they got hot, they could go to the other half of the cage where the feeder and waterer were. Almost everything I have for my chickens is homemade or "repurposed", I just can't afford to buy all the neato stuff that makes it easier on a person.

It took me two years to save up the money to order the chicks I got this year. And then lost the 3 houdans that I wanted SO MUCH.

I was so excited for the 27th! I hope your new batch works out! When are you going to order your new incubator? Are you going to try to hatch some in it this summer?
Ginger is still sitting on the new eggs so I'm hoping she keeps at it. I'll take some more pics tomorrow too!
