I know that seems like a stupid question, but I can't find any broken bones. I know something is injured. My daughter (25 yo) is visiting and came to tell me something was wrong with my chicken. She had brought it to the house and had given it water and it was very thirsty even though there was water in the pen. She was laying rather on her side. She is a Crele OEGB almost fully grown. She eats and drinks by herself just fine. The problem is I can't figure out where her injury is. I have felt for breaks but maybe it is just fractured. She droops her right wing and doesn't walk much. when she does she gets her leg caught up in her drooping wing.
How can I tell which is injured? If I knew which I could work with it....wrapping, splinting whatever. Wrap the wing up and see if that fixes her problem walking? I almost bet it is her leg. But if I can't feel breaks, should I imobilize it for a couple of weeks to see if that takes care of it? No vets here for chickens unless I want to pay a "$51.68" fee for just the visit! So far this last month we paid $1000.00 for exploratory surgery and then treatment...inc IVs and hospital stay for pancreatitis for our young cat that had swallowed a length of sewing thread. Now we have a horse lame in one foot from probable abcess in her hoof....we are still working with our farrier and vet on that case. Hubby says absolutely no more vet bills especially for a $5.00 chick and I can't help but agree. Still, I don't want to euthanize my $5.00 chick that I have had for a week!
