We had 2 buff orpingon chicks hatch 24/6/17. 1 has a larger comb & is considerably larger than the other. No crowing yet but we have noticed the larger bird has started to mount all the other birds. Could she be a he. (We were under the impression both were she's as we not had any crowing...... YET. But now we are not sure. Hoping someone can help.

It's most likely he's just taking his sweet time. He's bound to crow eventually. I've got a Barred rock rooster. (My lowest rooster in the pecking order) That never crows. He's got about 5 girls that sticks with him and he mounts them, But never crows.. Or at least he hasn't crowed yet.

It really depends. My bantam d'Uccles started crowing first. Then my EE (It was a terrible sound! We thought one of our hens was slowly dying lol). We also had 2 cochin babies, one had a small pink comb. The other had a large red comb and wattles but we rehomed our boys before we heard that one crow.
So just saying, he could crow starting anytime...or he could never crow at all. Then you'd have some great luck if you've got close neighbors. ;)

We do have close neighbours so if he does eventually crow he will only be doing It the once ;)

But will be keeping my fingers crossed that he will service our ladies quietly. What happens if you cross a BO and a aurocana bantam? Could his presence have slowed egg production? Just wondering as recently we were getting up to 7 eggs a day from 15 (now 14 obv) following mount and with light increasing but over the last week that has dropped to 2 a day? My white and blue layers haven't given me eggs in over a week? Wondering if he is having adverse effect?
