Is it an EE, an Ameraucana or an Araucana?

I understand, and agree to a point. Some have a refusal to listen or learn. There is a recent post here (and there are several others like it) where if a bird doesn't conform to any one particular standard it is automatically assumed that it is an EE. Just because a bird is a cross doesn't automatically make it an EE. There have been numerous attempts to correct some peoples way of thinking, but with some it never sinks in. As for what was said about people doing research, if those who are ordering from said hatcheries did their research, the would find that what is being sold as Ameraucana or Araucana are nothing more than EE. Im sorry, if you order these birds from the hatchery expect the real deal (as with so many other birds) you haven't looked into it. BYC threads show up when I google search, so I know that the information can easily be found. But you will notice as you look more into it on this forum, there are some with very little poultry knowledge and experience who are giving advice like its the gospel. I understand they are only trying to help, but end results can be disasterous. I have raised poultry for over 10 years, but I will not go into the Emergency section and give advice. Do I know some of the answers, yes, but on the possibility that I could be wrong and tell the person the wrong thing to do, not going to happen. I know this turned into a bit of a rant, but language and demeanor is not easily conveyed through forum posting. I have ruffled many feathers along the way, and probably will again at some point, but its a learning experience all the way around. Some times it just takes reading through someones posts to see if they are just being a jerk, or if they are just brutally honest.

There is a sticky at teh top specifically about araucanas, ameraucanas and EEs, and yet it seems that no one reads it--every week there are several posts about "is there a difference between EE, ameraucana and araucana. Repeating readily available information over and over gets old.

Well if you go by what the Ameraucana Breeders Club call a EE (Easter Egger) there is a lot of hatcheries and some breeders selling EE chickens.
Easter Egger a chicken that has the blue egg gene, but do not meet a breed/variety description in the standard of perfection, and that even if a bird meets a standard description of a breed, and doesn't breed true at least 1/2 of the time it is considered an Easter Egg chicken.

Hatcheries have a problem with all the breeds. Just look at the Rhode Island Reds and the Barred Rocks they sell and the Rhode Island Whites all so. Rhode Island Whites never came single comb there a rose comb breed. So what kind of cross breed are they selling as a R.I. Whits?

Hatcheries are nice if you want a chicken that is almost close to what the breed is supposed to be but if you want the real breed it has to be a good breeder.

Same thing with the Sex-link threads.

The only hatchery that I am aware of that words it correctly is Cackle Hatchery. They state right up front Easter Egger (Ameraucanas)

How do we find the sticky? I see the one at the top that shows you how to take good pictures of your birds, but nothing else... I know that I had no idea about a sticky, so others prob don't either.

My husband compares me to someone surfing for porn on the net that I am on here so much. He calls it 'chicken porn', but what he doesn't always realize is that all of you experienced breeders have given me more of an education than I could have ever gotten by going to the library here. This site and a few others and thank goodness for Google

All hail Google.

But I have seen a number of time that people will post questions about this topic. I have also seen people who will post pictures of what anyone who has done ANY research would be able to identify what the color or gender is. Yes, there are lazy people who just want someone else to do the work for them. But I can see where people, especially those who have never raised chickens or any other animals, can get confused on this particular matter.
I am glad I brought this up because I still think it is WRONG that hatcheries add to that confusion with their misrepresentation of what they are selling. I would still buy chickens that lay "different" colored eggs because when I sell them, I think people tend to think they are getting something special, especially if they have never had any other than the thin-shelled, runny, old factory eggs from the store. Varieity is the spice of life, and that goes for chicken eggs. Even Christmas would be boring if all we got were socks and underwear.

I think it might help if the information and pictures in the sub index for " Breeds " was more consistant with the SOP of the Ameraucana and not so contrary with what the breeders so often point out to new owners . Its too bad this is such a controversial subject ; and I hope this thread does not get deleted .

Food for thought...
So someone gets their birds from a hatchery, believing them to be the elusive Araucana as advertised. They take them home and they raise a whole bunch of them and they are SO happy they have all these "RARE" birds. They get to a point of too many (which doesn't take long

) and start selling them. Of course, not everyone gets on BYC or a computer for that matter.

, and this well-intentioned "breeder" starts selling their birds as what they were advertised as "Araucana". Here in lies a problem too. It all falls back on the ones supplying the birds in the first place - the hatcheries. Just be honest, right?
