Is it an EE, an Ameraucana or an Araucana?

Seems like just about every show, especially fairs, I've been to has had someone who did that--raised a hatchery bird with the intention of showing. It's always pretty easy to tell the difference.

I got mine just today, and I am always excited, even thought they are pretty much always the same. Anyway, mine from last year is sitting here too (pages worn and drool marks everywhere). I did order from them, but I knew in advance about ordering from hatchery v. breeder. As for me, I am as interested in working to get to an SQ from common stock as I am in any other aspect of raising them. So, for me it is not really a factor. I do have a couple of breeds I may want for exhibition as well and I will get eggs or chicks or young stock from a reputable breeder for that if I need to. I enjoy the challenge and learning as you grow them experience of raising animals. Look at the fun we would miss if no one every had a mutt or if they all turned out to be the perfect specimen. Thank goodness there are variables to add to the enjoyment we get from looking at everyone's pictures. And heck, if you just want to kick butt in a show, you can find show stock and pay for it. Me, I obviously enjoy the other route.

Wanted to add, they had the same disclaimer in last years' catalog too that the EEs they sell are not for exhibition. However, they should have them listed as Easter Eggers and just get rid of the "Arraucana/Ameraucana" label.

Very good analogy! With all the access to information we have with the internet no one has an excuse for not knowing what they are getting into. However, we all know too well that people also get other animals, including those mutts from the Humane Society or pound or whatever, and they haven't a clue how to properly care for them. There is no excuse for it. So, if someone goes to the hatchery and cries because they didn't get Grand Champion, shame on them.
