Is it common for Silkie's blue earlobes to change with age?

I have a 2 year old rooster and I noticed that his earlobes were a reddish purple. I hadn't noticed before because they were hidden by the fluff. I found pictures of him at 4 months old and they were a bright turquoise then. I'm not sure when they changed color.

Is this something that happens as they get older? Is it a fault?

Its not uncommon for a silkie's features to change. I once had a black silkie whose "fur" turned grey with age.
