Is it enough head room?

I want to have the front 6 ft, and the back 4 foot. With that, having a sloped roof, the sides 4 foot that way I have plenty of ventilation with hardware mesh that has something that can cover it when it's cold. Is it enough head room? I'm about 5'6 and not above a little stooping.

I can't get but 8 chickens max, so 8x4 is as big as I want it and I'm trying to cut back on $

If that the case then it will work, but it will be a little short @4' may be make it 4.5' to give you a little room for sweeping.

Thanks so much. I hate I can't have a ton of chickens. My rooster crows nonstop too

Out town allows 10 per acre, but I'm not sure how big our yard is, I'm sure it's bigger than an acre though, but if there is a bird I HAVE to have, I want to have room.

2 things to think about:

1) 6' and 4' measured *where*. If that is wall height and you will have trusses or rafters sitting on top of those walls, ok; if that is total structure height, though, remember that the roof itself and the trusses or rafters will be stickin' down lower, probably 6-12" depending how you're building it.

2) what roofing material are you going to use. If metal or plastic, no problem; if shingles on plywood, though, remember that roofing nails are going to be sticking out all underneath the plywood, and you do NOT want your head anywhere near that (like, you want at LEAST six inches to a foot clearance all over) or I promise you you'll be headed to the ER to get serious scalp lacerations stitched up sooner or later (prolly sooner). Those things are SHARP (and numerous)

Mine is exactly the same, just over 4' in the back and 6' in the front. I'm 5'5" tall and it works fine. Wont say we dont smack our heads from time to time at the back side, but it's fine.

You can also consider how to access the 4' end from outdoors. It might be possible to install a cleanup door on that end, and make sure if you do that it's predator-proof!
