Is it fowl pox? See the pics.

Been over two weeks since I lost a 7 month old pullet. It was random, unexpected, and didnt notice any signs. She was weak and not eating in the morning, by 6 she was dead.

So of course you become extremely aware after that trying to figure out something.

I have had a few runny stools from a couple chickens. And I have noticed a couple black spots on my Roosters comb. One other hen has a spot on hers. There is no puss, no difficulty breathing, great appetite, but overall egg production maybe only slightly down.

I have attached a couple pictures, two of the roosters comb (see the spots, and then its almost white flakes, dry skin like?) I also attached an image of the stool. THey arent all like this, but some are, green and runny. [

What ever it is, do I vaccinate (too late isnt it?) or treat with antibiotics? I have a total of 16 chickens.

I don't think that it is pox.The cold could have done it. If it was pox I wouldn't worry about it . Pox is not serious.

They could be insect bites or it could be a beginning stage of pox. Pox has 2 forms, Wet & Dry. Wet is the worst where they develop cankers in the mouths and can kill etc. Dry Pox is more like peoples chicken pox and has white bumps sometimes with black in the middle, and will run it's course mostly w/o incident.

As you can see fowl pox is more than the little flat spots that chickens get from bumping their combs and wattles around, insect bites, etc. (that are normal).

I can't be sure, but is that a worm in your pic of chicken poo?

The excretement does not have worms in it, thought I could see why you might think that. Its watery, green in parts, but then has two solid brown cylinders in it. The "poop" link was very interesting. Based on that, Id think the hen is either not eating enough or trying to cool herself.

This was originally a couple days ago, since then I tried to give variety in feed, with mixed vegetables and greens. I have also added some corn and sunflower seeds. I even gave some yogurt that some postings have mentioned. Now I have noticed a lot of brown stools, but rather soft overall. Still lots of excitement and eating.

I appreciate the fowl pox opinion. I didnt think so, but as a rookie owner I wanted to be sure.

Your roo looks normal, just keep an eye on the poop. It just looks like a "cecal" poop (normal every so often).
