Is it harder for heavier birds to fly?

I just finished clipping 2 days ago and I'm glad I did. No more AWOL. No more worrying about the neighbors dogs getting loose. No more hair pulling for finding my garden wrecked. Yes they are birds, but flightless birds for the most part and mine only used their wings to get where they weren't supposed to be anyway, so I didn't have any problem coming to the realization that the wings and flying had to go.

My leghorns that were like 3-4 lbs would just skip and hop over a 4 foot fence as if it wasn't there. The sexlinks never bothered, but when a dog came though, the leghorns were found on the roof of the house and the standards were in the garden behind the 4 foot fence. When freightened enough, I've seen my 11 lb rooster jump 5 feet up from the ground. It's harder, but where there is a will, there is a way when it comes to these guys.

Your words encouraged me to go for it. We clipped their wings this afternoon and it went great! Hopefully this will cure their wanderlust.
