Is it illegal to kill a cooper's hawk?

I have a cooper's hawk trying to get to my chickens. Is it illegal to kill it. I know its illegal to kill red tails

yes and no. if you kill it to kill or brag about it yes. but you can get a permit form the goverment to kill it if you can convince them that the bird is harrassing you livestock. the illegal shot shovel shut up is the easy way out but if you brag and the feds find out its 15K dollars and 5 years in jail. which is a felony

Just remember that in many states and commonwealths, game wardens do not need a warrent to search your property or vehical.

Maybe there's another way... Can you put up a fake owl or hawk? Can you make your coop better?

i have 6 of them hunting mine, they got three,so i have to keep them in the run and i took hunters orange tape and strung it across each other over my run. it keeps the hawks out because their wing span is to large.. i havent had one come up dead since..,good luck with your hawk problem..

Yes it is illegial.

If you are uncertain when you are really dealing with a persisent hawk, you can call the game warden and see what they recommend you to do in short of killing the pesty hawk.
