Is it just coloring?

I got 20 poults two weeks ago (lost two the first week that I couldn't get to eat or drink) and some of them are starting to get black lines down the center of their heads, from about middle of the top of the head down towards their necks. I'm assuming its probably just their coloring starting to come through, but is it possible that the lines indicate sex? Only about half of em seem to have the lines - the others have plain fuzzy brown/yellow heads. It's definitely feather color and not some sort of disease. Any thoughts?

Any pictures?

Unless you have something sex-linked so that the adult colors are different (chocolate or Narragansett), it probably has nothing to do with the sex of the bird.
