Is it just me, or are the ants a little over the top this year?

Corn meal! They take it back to the nest and it kills them. Makes them explode! Sweet, sweet revenge.... I put out a lid with cornmeal on my counter and within a couple of days, no ants. We had had them everywhere!
 
I use ant eater pantry powder. It is safe around food areas. In certain times of the year we get ants and very little gets rid of them. Cold weather and they disappear.
 
They're horrible here too!!! We're in N Fl. I think one reason is all the rain..They've got nowhere else to go but in! :

We can't hardly walk out side with stepping in an ant bed! And constantly spraying window seals and the outer doorways! I'm ready for WINTER (or what we call winter in FL)
 
ill put it this way they scared the snot out of us the other day the story goes,
we were getting ready to try out our homemade laundry soap and when my wife started the washer ummm there was no water
so we go out to the well pump and check it out no breakers popped or anything so we figure oooo great the pump is out. well for those of you on wells u know this means #@@#$^***^*^ this is gonna be veryyyyy expensive. i called the well service guy he tells us to go check the pressure switch. well duh why didnt i think of that.
well when i pulled the cover off of the switch what did i find but a big heap or lil tiny ants that had piled across 2 of the contacts and grounded out the whole system. never seen of heard of such a thing but it happened and it sucked. but im still glad it wasnt the well pump. hahaha
after we cleaned them out it worked fine again.
 
I had ants coming out of a crack in the sidewalk by my front porch a few weeks ago. I noticed that my Orpington Collective found them and I haven't noticed ants ever since.
 
We have a mess of them here too. I'm finding them everywhere! I've tried all the commercial ant traps and have bleached the counter tops and scrubbed out the pantry and cupboards to no avail. Every morning I find more...I'm even finding them in the bathtub..whats so good in there? We didn't have this problem last year. :mad:

I just read in my Countrside magazine to use one of those spray containers that go on the end of your garden hose. Fill it half with water and half with lemon dishsoap and spray everywhere around the house. It changes the PH balance in the soil and ants do not like it.

Yeah we got alot of ants also, this year they haven't come into the house so far, were just cleaning every thing up very clean to keep it that way. We do have this other ant hole though I have tried everything to kill these guys from poison to burning them out I even tried pouring gas on the hole and letting it sock in, I lite it on fire, I thought for sure they would be gone then but nop they came back a day later. Went to HD got some good stuff "so they said" cost me a bundle only to find alot more ants later. I dug it all out leaving a big hole, poured gas on it threw a match to it and wella I thought you little devils now your gone. the next day there back. this was ten years ago and they are still there,, same hole, same place just a lot more ants. I even poured concrete in and on the hole because I built a flower garden right on top of it, did they leave then? no way. Now I call them my pets what else can I do?. These are black ants large about 1/2 inch long.
