We got some 4H chickens from a friend of ours who are almost a year. Their just plain black sexlinked chickens. When I head down to the coop to make sure they have water or feed they start makeing a huge amount of noise and head towards me. sometimes I swear I see an evil glint in the queen ckns eyes. I have never been around chickens before so I don't know if this is a sign of ok your feeding and watering us or I'm going to get you just you wait... they do the same to my husband so its not a female thing. Any suggestions? Crystal

They're just happy to see you. As you feed them every day they start looking at you as the head honcho!

It's a chicken thing. They associate you and your hubby with food.

I pooper scoop my coops every morning when it gets light. I also throw out a handful of treats in each run before I clean. If it is still dark and I turn on a light in the house, everyone starts squawking until I get outside and give them their treats. They also come running anytime I approach the coops at other times of the day with a look on their face that says "Got anything for us?"

We have a couple of black sex-links chickens they are great egg layers and yes they all seem to have great vision as soon as they see any movement from myself or my wife they come a running towards us we get a kick out of it. They will follow us around like a dog would at times. When I am feeding them I have to be careful not to step on one they just seem to end up under your feet.

I LOVE that look. I love it almost as much as watching all those silly hens run/waddle full speed towards the door of the run!

My RIR'S used to do the same thing, as soon as I would open the back door they would come running, they were fenced in in the garden (after it was harvested) and once in awhile I would take a shovel out there and dig up some of the weeds and they would stand right there under foot eating the worms as I turned the soil over. I had to be careful not to chop there toes off.

Yay so glad to hear that... Allan What kind of treats do you throw? I was thinking of getting some live crickets to give them a little fun.

bigzo my banties are opposite they start planning an escape route as soon as I go near the door.

Here's a long list of treats: Grapes, tomatoes, lunch meat, bread, corn, cat food, lettuce, grass, worms, meal worms, potato bugs, apples, bananas... you get the idea!
Grapes cut in half are the best... They play "Chicken Keep Away" and it's the funniest thing EVER!
