Is it me or just him?

I cooked my first quail tonite. Totally yummy. Braised and then cooked in a sauce for a half hour or so. I though it was moist and tender, very flavorful. Okay. Hubby was just comparing it to *MOMS* and of course mine didn't measure up. She did it differently (sorry Mom... but you created this monster) and according to him mine was *chewy*.

Just venting as I know I don't do anything as well as his mom. Never have and never will. We've been married 31 years and it Isn't going to change. She is gone. She was a good cook, but his memories are of two times, eons ago, when she fixed wild quail. I'm just tired of trying to compete with memories.

Sorry for the rant. I sometimes wonder why I work so hard trying to live up to something I will never live up to.

it could easily be that his memories of his mom mesh too closely with the food so no matter how delishious your dishes are he'd rather have his mom back sorta thing. Though I must say, if that was me...I'd look at him point blank and say "well now...then i guess you're cooking from now on"

Have him cook the next one 'just like Mom's'.

Spoiled boys..... Make them do the cooking when they critique!

Thanks. I'm feeling a bit hurt. Shouldn't after all this time. The callouses are pretty thick but every now and then.....

He is a good cook. He just isn't very diplomatic where mom is concerned. Yeah, he should have married mom.
