Is it my business? No?

May I ask what laying mash is? I ask because, when the temps drop more than 20 degrees, I make a flaxseed and fruit wheat bran mash for my horses and wondered if I could give it to the chickens too? And if it's not the same, I wonder what it is!?

I think if you want a new roo, you should look else where. Right now people are giving them away because they have to many. Where do you live I have a couple of extra Bo roos. They're 7 months old and pretty quiet. Fed well and friendly, they will follow you anywhere. They were vaccinated.
BTW, His roo once he has been fed well may change behavior. Poor nutrition makes for dull behavior, lack of energy. I've seen that in many animals.

I am in Social Circle, GA. You are very far! Thank you for the offer though! So there are no possible cures for the respiratory thing?

I do know a lady who recommended this site to me - I wish I'd called her about the roo, but my neighbor is a good guy, I just should have checked out his coop first rather than thinking he was a good home. I think I can help him if I go about it right....

I just mean commercial layer feed. Some is crumbles and some of it is in pellets. Most people mean crumble when they say mash. My grandfather made sure he provided some feed so they didn't have to forage for everything they eat.

I would think that if his chickens were hungry they'd eat pellets or crumbles happily. It may have just been an excuse.
I feel sad for his chickens

I'd point him to this website and buy a bag of food - maybe say 'since you took the roo off my hands I thought I'd help by buying a bag of food that he likes'
His chickens see him eating the food and they'll join in.

I will definitely do that! It's on my way home and Friday is my 'stock up' day.....I was just wondering if I should try to pick him up some antibiotics.

You could always say it was just because you were worried about the roo you gave him - you didn't want him getting their 'colds' or whatever.
