Is it normal for hens to get vocal with new chicks?

I’m experiencing my first broody. With how my adults acted towards chicks I had brought in before I was beyond worried what they would do to really young chicks.
They started peeping after hatch and I swear the adults where scared! I’d hold a chick and it’d create a ruckus, the others would come over to investigate, then back away like the chick was going to attack. LOL

Mine go absolutely nuts when I introduce chicks. I keep them separated for awhile ( but can see each other). My neighbor actually called because of all the ruckus to see if our chickens were ok and we can’t even see their house from ours they are so far away but he could here the chaos Especially the head hen. I think my rooster is the only one happy about the situation

:lau that is too funny, big girls scared of little one:lau Kinda like my neighbors' cats are scared of chickens and was told the cats are scared of the bunny they got.

Calms down slowly and after about 5-7 days they go back to normal. They still want to watch each other... occasionally a peck or 2 through the netting but noise calmed down to normal.
It has already calmed down. Very little pecking at the fence, just once in a while. Mostly just laying in dirt nests by the fence. Times they got vocal was to demand the scratch this morning and what sounded like growls at neighbor's looking at chicks.
