is it normal for my 1 week old chicks to run away from me?

Every time I change the food or water in their brooder, my 1 week old babies run away from me like they're scared? we pick them up and love on them a few times a day. when will they stop being afraid of us?

They still need to get used to you. Give them a couple more weeks.

When you start with hand fed treats, it will improve greatly.

My supposedly docile Buff Orps ran from me and screamed bloody murder anytime I put my hand near them. They really only got "tame" when they reached puberty and started to do the squat thing.

As adults, they like petting and will hop on my knee if I sit in the run.

I havent tried it yet, but I read a theory on the board that someone figured it was the height thing. The hand coming from above scared the chicks so they moved everything higher so they wouldn't be coming in from above to get their chicks, but from the side and it wasn't so imposing.
