One of my hens, who is new to us, stopped laying eggs. We haven't had her for long, but she was laying every day, and now it has been five days without an egg! That being said, four days ago a dog got into our backyard and killed one of our chickens. We are pretty darn heartbroken over that. So could it be that she is just stressed out? The other hens are laying fine, but I am worried about her...she doesn't show any signs of being egg bound, as in she is acting normal otherwise, but I am new to chickens and concerned that I am doing something wrong to prevent her from laying. Before the dog incident, she frequently laid in our compost bin instead of in the coop, but we have searched our yard very thoroughly and also watched her behavior -she isn't laying anywhere else. Is it just stress? If so, what can we do to help alleviate that? I miss her pretty egg song!
