Is it normal for my silkie to be laying an egg every day ?

One of my silkies has laid a total of 3 eggs in 1 1/2 years.

That’s crazy! What are you feeding her? Hopefully layer with calcium on the side and grit ,

My 3 lay 2-3 eggs a day , go broody for a few days every few weeks. We added a silkies rooster and our egg production increased and broody time dropped,

I think he’s so busy feeding them and chasing them that they have no time to be broody:)

I love mine more then I thought I would , the eggs are rich and make the most yummy waffles ever

Will have to try with waffles, sounds yummy.
We have layer pellets with oyster shell and grit. We then give a scoop of split dried corn which they share at breakfast between 4 of them.
Once a week we open a small tin of sweetcorn and give it as teatime treats throughout the week which they all share. The silkies go nuts for this but not Rose, our polish. They free range all day and always seem to be eating leaves and bugs. Do they ever stop eating?!!

This is just my opinion
, but that’s a lot of corn .
Also I give treats only in the afternoon, they eat only layer feed all morning when they seem to be really hungry. Think of the layer as the meal and everything else is desserts. They don’t need dessert ...

Try some high protein treats instead of just corn . Mine love a can of tuna ,some use mealworms, I sprout lentils for mine.

They don’t seem to stop eating , but they do ;)

Yeah, it is pretty crazy. She has been fed properly, her 19 other roost mates are doing just fine and are plenty productive. She is healthy otherwise and very active in the flock, but definitely has the smallest little teeny brain out of all of them.

Our silkie roo, who has his way with bantam cochine, RSL, BSL and eggers has never mounted her but looks after her and protects her like no other.

We let a broody cochine sit this past spring, now those two new pullets are a seriously goofy looking mix, will be interesting to see if they lay as well as momma.

That’s nice that you keep her even if she’s “ unproductive “, she might have reproductive issues .

I love the ones with small brains
Some days we can relate :)

My Silkie laid her first eggs! There were 6! Seems like allot! They weren’t there the day before I’m sure of it. I have a total of 3 Silkies one I believe to be a roo, one a hen and one undetermined...
