Is it normal for Turkens to be this large at 4 weeks?

Here they are at one week old. Not the greatest picture, but you can see mine are black and are the same size as the other chicks so far. I had not noticed the little yellow underneath before so maybe things will change.

They are being advertised as the homesteaders meat birds. Cornish cross cannot be bred because they die too quick. These are supposed to be ready at 10-12 weeks instead of 6-8 weeks like Cornish cross but are able to be grown to full age to reproduce. Cornish Cross aren’t sustainable and can only be bought but these turkens mix are supposedly sustainable for homesteaders. It will be interested to see how they turn out. Will definitely be easier to find their necks on butcher day

I was thinking less plucking lol.
I do want to add a regular Naked Neck to my laying flock though, they’re supposed to be very friendly birds!

I picked up 2 Turkens plus 2 ISA at TS 6 weeks ago, and purposefully picked a black turken that was super energetic along with the yellow. The black one was much smaller than the yellow and the 2 isas which I didn't notice till I got home. She is still quite a bit smaller, the yellow is a little bigger than the isas.

I got 2 of the yellow Turkens from TS this year as well and they started the same size as the rest but have grow to double the size of their flock and they seem to be less hardy as well. both mine seemed to have a vitamin deficiency leading to trouble walking. None of the other breeds struggled with this at all. some supplements in the water and they are fine now but still seem to be growing faster than they can keep up with.. Im hoping they arent mixed with an unhealthy breed cause these are meant to join my laying flock.. interesting to hear others experiencing this too.

They are adorable! There’s something weirdly cute about naked necks, I just love them so much!

Oh no. We just got our first two Turkens and two mystery chicks two days ago (no naked necks) from the same bin at TSC. All yellow… One Turken though does have little dark chipmunk marks so I’m holding out that one can’t/won’t be a meat bird. I love them very much and would be heart broken if that’s what they are. I had wanted to go back and grab a few more too but this thread has me nervous about it. Good to keep in mind though in case they start getting massive early on.

At 6.5 weeks they are still the same size as my other birds. Two of the four are pure black and two now have this other coloring that makes it looks like they are wearing scarves. Good luck, everyone.
