I should point out, before anyone gets upset, I didn't hit him hard. I just tapped him with it. Just enough to let him know that I had a weapon and he should back off.

Quote: I am sure some boys are sweter to the girls. And I know some roosters will only mate with the girls if they have permission. All roosters are different. If the thread starters rooster is fine with one girl that's great! I am just talking from my experience.

A spur is the sharb thing on a roosters leg. To spur is to try to stab someone or something with it.Thanks for explaining, but I don't really know what "spur" means either though I've read that roosters grow spurs on their feet for fighting. Does that mean he will try to scratch me with his claws? He is definitely aggressive now. He pecked me again this morning and just now he puffed out his chest and ran around on the spot like he was mustering a run up and then went at me. I took off my shoe and hit him with it and he backed off, but I was too scared to turn my back on him in case he rammed me from behind. He's a real teenage boy now, I suppose. Sigh!
no chickens are jerks. I love those 2!
My freind has a vicouse Silkie rooster and everyone is scared of him. He is so small. He is scary because he jumps in your face.Good advice. I'll try the stomping and chasing. He went me again this morning, but I was wearing thick, knee-high leather boots so he couldn't hurt me. He gave me a sharp peck in the foot and I kicked at him and he backed off. I need the boots on to give me the courage to stand my ground more than for my protection. Hilarious that I'm terrified of a little, baby rooster. ;-)
Post a photo anyway even if he's dirty. I love silkies. Unfortunately, my roo really went at me this morning. I had to kick him away several times and he kept coming back for me and now he is being very rough on his hen. I think I might have to rehome him and buy another hen to keep my existing hen company. Feeling very sad about it.I have two pens that have 2 hens and 1 roo and hens go broody. All rules go out the door with Silkies. I sometimes will have several roos together with the hens and they will decide who is in charge.
Any really good silkie breeder will tell you that silkies can't be sexed. I've tryed to guess, would have sworn that this one white silkie was a hen, the puff was so round on its head and the neck so skinny, very hen like apperance, would have sworn was a hen until about 7 months old and i saw 'her' chase a hen. To this day she doesn't make almost any nosie never really crows but i have him in with some nice black hens and had eggs hatch today - so he's doing the job but is a prefect quiet gentlemen. I really need to give him a bath and take some photos he's really pretty.
I'd have to say as roos go silkies are the niceset.
