Funny, because I had a Cochin go broody. She was in a really high up place so I moved her on day 11 to a dog kennel on the floor. Around day 16 when I thought she was well established on that nest, I opened the dog kennel so she could come out for a brief forage and a dust bath (she had food and water in kennel). 5 hrs later I found her in original nesting box and her eggs were cold! I posted the problem here and was told to go ahead and put her back on nest and hope for the best. Several posters told stories of similar incidences where the eggs hatched. At day 26 when I saw there was no movement, no peeping, and no pipping, I moved her to the brooder box and gave her 12 more eggs. I posted THAT on here, as well, as I was concerned about her health, since she'd be doind another 21 day stretch with very few breaks. I was told that if she really wanted to sit, let her. One poster replied that I might try some high protein treats like cheese and scrambled eggs. Today is day 9 and so far so good. She's been out a couple of times - both times for about 45 minutes. I worried the first time, thinking she had quit the nest, but the eggs stayed warm (95 degrees outside and probably warmer in the brooding box!). But she goes right back!
Now, with your situation, with the chick and all, I just don't know. But if she wants to sit, let her, I say!
