Is it ok to put hot hands in the turkey cage?

Lizard lamps are very similar to poultry. They actually tend to be a little safer with regards to holding the bulb and their wires, but concentrate the heat more. 7 inches is WAY too small though. That's tiny. There's no way that your lamp hold a bulb big enough and hot enough for the chicks though. I know. I have and have used both. Get a poultry lamp. Go to a tractor supply or feed store, not a pet shop.
We went to both garden shops and tractor supply they where sold out

You need a bigger lamp. 5"-8" reptile lamps are only rated up to 150watt bulbs. Also reptile bulbs are garbage and burn out very fast. You want a big lamp with a big bulb. There's NO way a tiny lamp like that puts out enough heat safely for turkey poults.

You want a 10"+ lamp like this;

And you want a 250 watt bulb. I like the red ones. Get a poultry bulb, not a reptile bulb. Reptile bulbs are designed to produce a special spectrum of light and will burn out fast and be MUCH more expensive as a result. I use a bulb like this;

Also good would be a ceramic heat emitter;

A lamp and bulb this size can be placed a safe distance away from coop bedding and still produce enough heat in a large enough area for chicks. Consider adding an additional wire cover to keep debris away from the lamp, and in case the bulb breaks. Heat lamps are notoriously unsafe in general.
