Is it ok to use cedar chips for coop litter?

Do a search on here and you will find many threads including my thoughts and links to studies. There is tons of info out there on the damage to respiratory systems and the liver by the oils in cedar. Simply put personally I would not use any cedar around any animals under any circumstances.

In a pinch we used Aspen or Carefresh (I told you it was in a pinch) but never cedar. It causes repristory problems in lots of creatures including me

I have had my hens on cedar shavings for almost a year now. They have never been healthier and lay very well. WHY IS CEDAR BAD!

This thread is very old and the information is outdated. There is nothing wrong with cedar shavings - this is an old wives tale.
