Is it possible for a cat to only eat rodents?

I have a barn cat that goes right in with the silkies and gets mice. As far as I know, no chickens have been harmed. They seem to ignore each other.

My cats do fine with the chickens. They would get chicks from a brooder if they could get in, but not when they are with a mama hen. The get all the songbird babies and squirell babies they can find, but they also get all the rats and mice they can catch. They don't always eat them..sometimes they do, but sometimes they just kill them and play with them. You have to feed your cats though. You really do. If they are having an off day and don't catch anything they would just go hungry. You'll see their condition deteriorate quickly if you don't feed them...if they even stick around. They're really likely to leave in search of someone who will feed them. They will hunt just as hard even if you don't. It's instinct for them. They love catching rodents. Consider getting shelter cats. Many shelters adopt cats for free. They just aren't as adoptable as dogs. They are free at the shelter I volunteer at, but they ask that you have them spayed, or neutered, which you can get done cheaply at another shelter in the next county over.

My cat does fine with the chickens. Well, not really. He was PETRIFIED of them when I brought them home as chicks. PETRIFIED. Shaking, quivering, would not go in or out of the house past the brooder. He likes to loll around them now and has definitely begun to catch a lot more mice. I see him take his position near the coop every evening. He knows what's up.
I have had many cats over the years who have not be able to catch birds. I don't think they weren't trying, I think they just were not good enough hunters. A bell on a collar should help warn the birds. Til the cat shakes it off.
There are a lot of barn cat rescues in most states now. Maybe if you don't like cats particularly that would be the way to go. They could live in the coop. I have heard of a lot of folks doing that. I think most cats know that the chickens - fully grown at least - will whoop up on them.
My Smokey walked by the girls yesterday and one rose up as if to peck him and the other three gals turned and started to close in on him. I have watched my adolescent hens chase him around the yard A LOT.

I have 15 barn cats and NO rodents. I have a couple bratty boys who will chase the chickens for fun sometimes, but the flock knows which ones those are and which ones are "safe"

I do have to watch them with the newborn chicks, but I've never lost any.

Well I have a cat that kills mice (we don't have many rats), but I've never seen him hurt a bird or anything else. He is fine w/ baby chicks, he's a great cat! Excellent mouser!

Then I have my other cat that wouldn't kill a mouse to save his life (actually watched him, watching a mouse run through the house, didn't move, just sat there w/ a puzzled look on his face before putting his head down to finish his nap), but he killed a bunch of my chicks once (in the brooder, not w/ a hen).

Never had one bother chicks for ducklings w/ their moms though.
