Hi me again (second post ever!)

Daisy, One of my 3 rescue hens seems to have a problem.

When she poos what seems to be part of the inside of her vent pops out a bit and partially hinders the poo coming out (sorry to be graphic!). She doesn't seem to be in pain, it doesn't stop her pooing and it pops back in afterwards but obviously I worry that it could be the start of a prolapse or indicative of a larger problem.

Any ideas?

Hi Thanks for the reply.

She used to lay eggs but she has been laying softer shelled ones up until fairly recently which led to a whole different problem with egg eating(!). She hasn't laid for sometime but I can't feel anything egg like (not that I know what to look for...)

I'm 99% sure it's not normal for her. I haven't noticed this before.

It seems to be getting worse and takes her a while to squeeze all the poo past the obstruction that seems to have got a bit bigger (sorry to graphic again). She still doesn't SEEM in pain but its hard to tell.

Thanks again for the reply.

Well I thought it had gone away but yesterday she pooed and it looked a lot worse took ages for it to go back in and it doesn't look like a prolapse in that its more like an obstruction that the poo has to get round rather than the 'pooing mechanism' itself dropping down. Well I'm off to the vet in just over an hour so if anyone has any pearls of wisdom now might be the last chance to share (I worry that he'll advise that she's put down
