Is it possible to BORROW a roo? LOL

Well Im going to be the oddball
We have borrowed rosters.
The rules were pullorum free vaccinated and wormed.
If the rooster was good I even paid for vet check and blood tests. they are vaccinated and there is a 2 to 3 week wait after vaccines

I have some good freinds who borrow my sebright hens, she really wanted to buy them but I couldnt part with them so they were to go out on loan , all walking papers in tow.

Most people just buy roos. We loan them on occasion and quarentine for 2 more weeks then off to the breeding shed. Have done this a few times as well as show a lot and no incidents.. just like showing horses.. It can be worth the effort and time. but can cost a little. Keep things spotless clean too and only the hens you intend to breed.

Its personal choice, if you dont like to keep a lot of roosters its an option. I havnt done this often but have done it.

Hee hee hee....Why, I'll lend you some of mine, and we'll just MEET somewhere for you to pick them up and..what? My phone number changed? You can't find me to bring them back? Oh, so sorry... Just kidding, but I have plenty of surplus roos I'd be glad to have someone take off my hands. Most are well mannered, all are beautiful -- just too many roos.

I know some times you can't fine the rooster your looking for. Like me I want a ameraucana blue with blue gene egg layer. If there was some one to borrow from I would not do it because of what others have said. So I got a holding pen for my new rooster when I do find him. Quarantine even if it is time consuming. I worry enought about my own chickens. It would be to hard on me to worry about someone elses chicken and all the things that could go wrong. No No, patience is a virtue.
For others it's OK in the right time and the right place. Me, not so much. Good luck with that.

I would have to agree with aveca... if the birds are disease free and vet checked... all the "t"s crossed and "i"s dotted, what's the difference than studding out a dog, cat, horse, bull?

I'd be picky as heck with who got my boys (or girls for that matter), but if I trusted the person and all the veternary health issues had been addressed... what's the problem?

I wouldn't borrow my rooster. The hen's could be carriers of various diseases. Here in SA Newcastle is a problem.
