Is it possible to get show quality out of hatchery chicks?

Of course, it's possible. When breeding for show quality, the big thing is volume, volume, volume. If you want a a decent breeder quality pair or trio of birds from a hatchery, plan on ordering at least 25-30 birds of the same variety. If you order that many, you will probably get one or two that will give you something decent to build from. The next year, hatch out absolutely as many as you possibly can and then cull down to the best birds. Within in a couple of years, it is very possible that you will get some good ones.

It probably goes without saying though that your chances are much better starting with high quality to begin with. In the long run, you will likely have to breed less birds, be able to sell the birds for more, and get where you want to go *much* faster.
