this little 9 wk old scraped all her skin off on one side - we're not sure how - she was stuck between the fence and plastic planter, and we think it was from trying to get out. We have doused the area twice with hydrogen peroxide/water and put some iodine/water on, then some neosporin. I don't know if it's possible for this to heal. There is just no skin. I've been in tears. I can't believe she's still alive, let alone eating and drinking a little. I don't want her to suffer if it has no chance of healing. Any thoughts would surely be appreciated.

I don't know much about birds and medical treatment. However maybe if you keep it really clean, maybe some antibiotics, vitamins (to help with skin and feather regrowth), and keeping the other birds from picking on her, maybe she'll have a chance.
Have you tried to call a vet? I'd be nice to get some kind of ointment w/ pain relief.
Well, sorry that I'm not any help but good luck. I'll be thinking about you and your bird. Hopefully we'll see updated pics of it healing soon!

Not Sure How it got so bad. Keep Her extremly dry in her own cage with wood shavings. Hydrogen Peroxide Sounds Good once a day. Put some vitamins and minerals in her wate, you can get them at the feed store. As bad as it looks chickens are really good healers and she might have a chance.

I feel so bad. Keep us posted goodluck

thank you for your thoughts. I did just get some vitamins & electrolytes to add to her water. She is inside and away from the other birds. There are no vets around here who deal with poultry. I wish I knew if I could give her something for pain. I have Rimadyl for our dog and I was wondering if a few grains or so could be given to her or any other kind of pain reliever...

Wow, poor little thing. I wonder if something like this would help? http://www.firstaidsuppliesonline.com/nav.pl?cat=NavBandage&prod=1570335. I'd try to keep her in a sterile environment as much as possible (I'm thinking bleach-cleaned rubbermaid with clean towel or paper towels? So things like dirt and/or pine chips don't get under her wings somehow and irritate the healing process. It looks like there's not a lot of bleeding? Good luck to her.

I have tried this New Skin Liquid Bandage on myself and wow did it sting like crazy! However I did think of that, but it's such a big area I didn't think it would be of use. I haven't seen any bleeding at all.

I've read over and over the hydrogen peroxide does more harm to tissue than good. I would hold off on that until some more experienced folks check in with advice or experience in treating open wounds. As long as she's inside - away from potential contaminents and flies, you should be fine.

As for pain, you can give her aspirin, but I am not sure on the dosage. I will do a search on here and post if I find it.

Wishing her a speedy recovery.
