Saucier,Ms.
I posted on Craigslist to see if anyone would be interested in a small animal swap in my area and someone replied with an email wanting to know why I would want to start another one when there was already one 45 minutes from me and another 1 hour from me.

so my genuis mind got to thinking this person may have the jumbo and texas a&m quail I am looking for so I sent an email inquiring abut it and this is the response I got

I raise them, but right now all I have are my breeders.I have a few hundred in the incubators right mow that will ne hatched out in a couple weeks.6 weeks old they start laying. There are very few people around here with real jumbo pharoah.we have the jumbo xld which can get to 19ounces. Also we are the only ones around with true jumbo texas a&m straight from university stock.it will bee a few weeks before I have eggs available from them.

is it possible I need to deal with someone else?

If he really did have 19 ounce coturnix and REAL texas a&m(the white meat ones) I would buy from him as soon as I could. But I would obviously ask for pics and what not.Try asking the him!

A&M's were never white meat... they were a little lighter colored meat but never white. JJ do I have this right?

I would not commit to any purchase but if they are close by I'd go see his stock. If his stock is good then go ahead and buy just don't believe everything he says.

YOU ARE CORRECT RAINWOLF. THERE NEVER HAS BEEN A WHITE MEAT COTURNIX. AND AS FAR AS HIS CLIAMS OF 19OZ JUMBOS ...WELL LETS JUST SAY THAT IN MY OPINION THATS ABOUT AS REAL AS PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING. THE XLD-1 IS A BROWN JUMBO STRAIN.

D1 YOU ARE YOUR OWN PERSON AND RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS... I IN NO WAY HAVE OR CLAIM TO HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER ANOTHER HUMAN BEING ON THIS PLANET ASIDE FROM MY CHILDREN.,.. SO WHAT YOU DO IS UP TO YOU, BUT I WILL SAY BE VERY CAREFUL HERE... ANYTIME I HEAR ABOUT "WE HAVE THE ONLY", OR "OURS ARE THE ORIGINAL", OR "WHITE MEAT" IN ASSOCIATION WITH COTURNIX, LET ALONE ANY CLAIMS OF ANYTHING OVER 14 OZ IN COTURNIX IT SOUNDS THE SAME AS SOMEONE TELLING ME THEY ARE PUTTING AN ELEVATOR IN THEIR OUTHOUSE! BECAUSE BOTH SEEM TO GO ONLY 1 WAY AND TO THE SAME PLACE...

(JUST MY EXPERIENCE, I MAKE NO CLIAMS TO ACCURACY BUT SO FAR I HAVENT BEEN PROVEN INCORRECT ON THIS)

JJ, I LIVE for your replies. Thank you for making me smile and guiding us every day. You sprinkle humor into the wisdom and it makes the forum so much more enjoyable.

While I am mildly off topic, I learn from each thread including this one.

Jumbo's are the hot seller right now! I am choosing people to purchase from who are willing to email and speak with me about their stock. I want to know the history of my birds.

So even though I am a newbie and looking for Jumbos too, I feel like X2 to what JJ posted and Buttercup posted. It is possible and find people who show you pics and talk about the lineage of their stock without the Championship Wrestling style claims.

That was just too much JJ. Keep it coming flock master!

that is what I am trying to say I have never seen a 19 oz quail and very few 14 and I remember the posts on here(been a few years ago) about the white meat birds and have never seen one of them either

I have. But mine are just a thin strip of white meat under the breast and lighter meat elsewhere, and not on all of them. Got a long ways to go, yet.

I'll X2 on that JJMR, on the Texas A&M being developed for the size and the light meat.
But I have a feeling they are changing. We're talking Coturnix and Mutations are the norm for them, more and more.

If they have the origanal lines they have to be terribly inbred after 30-50 years and if they are not inbred ( introduced new blood ) then they do not have the " origanal " line LOL
