ok i have a crazy question i have one chick from the hatching we had two weeks ago it is starting to look kinda frizzled which isnt a prob. my question is the mother was game and daddy was polish neighther of which carried the gene so is it possible to still have an offspring that could have it i mean has to start somewhere but just didnt know thanks.

The Frizzle gene is recessive, so if both parents carry it it is possible that offspring will Frizzle.

Yes if there is a frizzle gene in your chickens then you can get frizzled chicks

Wrong. Frizzle is incompletely dominant, so if present, it should show. Birds with two copies are overly frizzled, traditionally called CURLY, although n BYC people have been calling them frazzled.

HOWEVER, there is a frizzle modifier gene that IS recessive. It UNFRIZZLES the feathers, so that a frizzle with one copy of the gene typically does not look frizzled, and one with two copies looks pretty much like a normal frizzle. How common or rare this gene is has been a matter of speculation, with some saying very common to others saying very rare. thanks everyone for the replies. im still confused on my question though. this is what i know of frizzle gene. it is dominant and you should never breed two copies of the gene which means frizzle to frizzle you always breed frizzle to smooth to acomplish healthy non frazzled birds w half smooth offspring and half frizzled. also frazzled birds often have other health issues as well. neway the smooth offspring as ive read in an article about the gene stated that even though one parent carried the gene it was born smooth and will not throw frizzled offspring itself. however the others with the noticeably plumage will have offspring tht carry it so other words if you cant see it it dont have the gene. hope that cam across as it idid in my head anyway. the two parents of my chick neighthter of them had the frizzle gene, but since im unsure of how the gene origianlly gets started is it possible that one can be hatched w the gene and then its capable of throwing frizzled offspring itself. is this making any sense lol??? is the gene a genetic throwback that happens to be dominent???? whewww that was alot lol thanks so much to you all i hope i dont sound crazy just curious about chickens lol
