Is it really a bad idea to have just one chicken?

Everywhere I read I'm told to always get three or more when starting out but I just want one!

Chickens really do better with friends. Observing mine, I see how much of a flock animal they are, much like sheep. They chase each other around, sleep together, steal food from one another. You definitely need two or three....or more. They're a bit of an addiction. :)

Don't get just one!

It will be lonely and sad.

Get different colored ones and then you can name them and tell them apart!

In the state I live in, it's a law that you get AT LEAST 6, because a lot of people where just buying 1 chick for Easter, finding out that its not so cute after a couple 'a weeks, and then dumping it. A minimum of 6 requires a bigger commitment.

Trust me, after you get one, if you're really into it, and make good, responsible decisions (I know, ya'll are laughin at me- of all people- "responsible"-- ha!! (actually, I am very responsible when it comes to my livestock- im still workin on the whole people thing... :/)),
then you wont want "just one". Puoltry is my addiction. I said I was gonna get 6 or 8, came home with 10, got 10 more a week later, and now im up to 40.

Trust me, start with 3 (if its legal in ur state), and you won't regret it. And your adorable lil chicks will thank you!

Lol I live in Ireland actually!! And thanks for the words of wisdom haha

Awesome! That is so cool.
The only place out of the US I've ever been was Canada (big whoop), and that was like a jillion years ago (it feels like).
:)

Good luck!
