I raise `Barnyard`!!!!!!
I wanted a good sized bird for `table roos` and a nice sized production style hens for eggs....
I got a big wyndotte roo from someone in the neighborhood (he did not reach the ASA SOP for the breeder, but had a great attitude)... I have red sex-links as my first birds and I breed them together on purpose for those great birds that fill my requirement for the cost of feed and the incubator electricity. They have amazing colours and personalities!!
I have added some olive eggers(Marans/Ameraucana) and plan on adding a blue egg layer(leghorn/Ameraucana) to my back yard flock for next season.... (they are still a little young right now)
I have `pure` breeds for the showing and to keep the colored eggs coming, but I love the look and attitude of the Barnyard mixes.... Great birds.
Focus on your goals for your flock and you will be fine.
