Peachicks are 2 weeks old, and we are keeping mom and chicks penned for safety. We let them out (supervised) for short outings into the bigger pen. Meanwhile curious, is it safe for the male to hang out with mom and chicks? he is lonely and curious, but respectively stays away and gives her space.

Also, mom is teaching her chicks to roost at night. very interesting to watch, she does this repetetively, then finally sits on the ground so the chicks can stay warm under her. When are the chicks ready to roost high up in the tree with dad? We live in a forest, the male roosts up about 30-40 feet up. I wouldn't think the chicks would be safe. We have racoons (that can't get up that far), owls, hawks, eagles, etc. At what age generally do people that let their peafowl free to live wild let the chicks out on their own.

thanks for any help.

I would think they would be fine around there dad, I had 8 Royal Palm Turkey Chicks, and I put a Step Dad in with them since theres died and he will sit on them and follow them around and is very caring toward them. I am unsure if this is normal or not but I would give it a shot.

ok, thank you joe, i will try it out. so far he seems very docile around them between the fence. i also wonder about my chickens and how they would treat the chicks. eventually everyone will free roam together but i'm being careful about the chicks.

I had four baby Chicks die today in the coop with the other chickens, I left them with there mother hen, I think my Male Gangsta Guinea did it.

Oh Joe that is so sad, i bet momma is real stressed and you too

I was going to take them into the house, but they all looked happy, they were there for a couple of day's and then this, I am pretty sure it was Guinea. Mom's are still sitting so I should get some more.

Baby Pheseants, poults and Turkeys and Peafowl are all doing great together.
