Ok so this may be a really silly question. But I just ordered my first set of chickens and they recommended vaccinating the chicks. Which I have never really thought about this before. I want to make sure I am doing the best thing for the chickens and for my family so my question is, is it safe to eat eggs from vaccinated chickens? I am sure new to this and I am very excited, so I just want to make sure I am doing the right things. I would think that it is ok and doesnt matter, but I really dont know the answer to this.

Thanks in advance! I am so excited to start this chapter in my life! Catherine

Yes. I want to say most birds in egg production are vaccinated.
Although, the coccidiosis vaccine isn't necessary because it's very easy to treat and the mareks vaccine doesn't prevent the disease, it just prevents symptoms. (Usually)
I wouldn't bother with either.

@nuthatched is correct, the eggs you get from the store are most likely all vaccinated. The only vaccine I get is for Mareks, it is highly prevalent in my area, and while it does not prevent the disease, it does provide some protection from it and decreases their risk of it turning into a disease (ie: stops the tumors from forming).

Vaccination is a complicated topic, so whether vaccination is best for your flock or not depends on a lot of factors and your personal stance, but, the eggs are considered safe to eat :)

100% agree!

Thank you all! The one they offered was for mareks but I really have never thought about it and want what is best, but sometimes I feel like the over vaccinate so I was just making sure. I am super excited! My husband thought it was funny that it took me 3 days to pick chickens. lol Just wanted to make sure I was getting a good flock.

Glad I found this site. I am sure I will have many questions. Have a great New Year!
