We are just starting out so we are starting with chickens, the thing I need to know is it okay to keep eggs in the spring house? We are thinking about putting shelves in there to set the eggs on would that be safe or would it be to damp? If not in the spring house what about the root cellar?

I would love to have a spring house! Eggs kept in a fridge lose moisture, shriveling inside the shell. Here at home we eat them fast enough, seldom keeping them for a week. But at my in-laws trailer at the beach they keep eggs in the fridge for months. One precaution that helps is to dip them in paraffin.

All of which is unnecessary in a root cellar or spring house!
