My Golden Sex Link, Nugget, has disgusting butt feathers- dried poo is cemented to her feathers.

We have been hosing it off, but it keeps on coming back. The other chicken, Sunnie, has a perfectly clean feathers on her rear, so we thought of trimming Nugget's feathers. However, we don't know if it's safe. Is it safe?

yes its safe

its a common practice

especially for fluffy birds to aid mating

like the Orpington breeds

! Pleased you joined us! I have heard of others doing so...should be good to go. Best of luck!

Plucking or trimming of feathers is frequently done to facilitate breeding and/or cleanliness in heavily feathered breeds. You are good to go with the practice. Welcome to BYC.

If you have scissors with rounded tips they are safer to use
