Is it safe to write on egg with a Sharpie?

Here's my question. Is it safe to write on an eggshell with a sharpie permanent marker and then eat it later? I wanted to label the eggs I have started getting them with date and pullet's name if I know who it was, and keep them for a few weeks to compare later eggs.

I don't see why not. I mark hatching eggs with one.amd they do fine for the most part

I don't think there is an issue. It's very common to use a pencil or sharpie to mark eggs for hatching.

My question is since I write on all of my eggs with a super fine point sharpie, can I then water glass those eggs or will the sharpie ink have any affect on them?

I would mark the jar when water glassing. I use the oldest jar first, or the first jar first. Just date the jar with the day or week I put it together.

If you are keeping eggs 3 weeks - do not water glass those, water glass fresh eggs.

I use a pencil if I am keeping eggs on the counter for a possible broody hen. Then eat the older ones as we wait for the hen to go broody.

But I use a sharpie on eggs under a broody hen, as she will rub the pencil markings off.

What are you comparing the eggs for at 3 weeks?
