Central Oregon
Hello All!

I am trying to order some chicks early this year, and I wanted to know if it was safe to order chicks from Meyer Hatchery, and have them ship them to Central Oregon? I am waiting on the hatchery to get bantam chicks available, they said they would be by the end of this month. I was going to order chicks from mypetchicken.com, but the shipping cost to my zip code was 62 dollars!! That was more than the chicks I was going to order!!

Thanks

I have ordered chicks from Ideal Poultry in Texas. I'm in Pa and they usually arrive with no problems. Most of the hatcheries are good at getting chicks to you safely. Things can happen though. Sometimes the Post office messes up. You can lose some from shipping stress but the hatcheries will refund or reship. I have never ordered from Meyers but knew people that did.

you can order anything you want. but the hatchery might have restrictions..
the bad thing about ordering them in a month is that the weather is still cold.
after the weather warms up your chances of live delivery is improved.
It doesn't matter who you order from.
I live in Wisc. I ordered from Iowa and the chickens made a trip to California on their way here.. it all depends upon what flight they are put on..

it doesn't always matter if the hatchery is close or far. if they put the chicks onto an airplane, it can go across the whole continent before it gets unloaded . I mentioned this is a prior post.
and besides, the hatchery might not have the type of chicks you ordered. often they have hatcheries in other parts of the country where those chicks come from.
bottom line: just order what you want from any hatchery and you will get what you want..
USPS ground delivery is the hardest on chicks. Often the chicks are loaded into the back of an unheated truck and transported who knows how far in the cold.
I have had 100 chicks delivered all dead
