Is it safe???

I have been reading alot on here that you should "NOT" feed medicated feed if your birds were vaccinated... I want to know if this is true or not and what everyone else does... right now I feed them medicated Start and Grow I get from the feed store and my chickens (that are now 3 months old) were vaccinated by Meyers when I ordered them... thoughts and opinions please!!!

I purchased my chicks from Murray McMurray and they were vac against Merrick and Coccidiosis and I was told if I feed them medicated feed it would void any guarantee on the vaccination.

That's right-if they were vaccinated for cocci, do not feed medicated feed as it will cancel out the vaccination. This does not however, apply to Marek's-only coccidiosis (sp?).

Honestly I could care less about the vaccination as more and more people I talk to don't have their vaccinated and just feed medicated feed... I am just wondering if this is gonna affect the birds in someway or if I have nothing to worry about

Feeding medicated feed, which aids in the prevention of and helps build an immunity to coccidiosis in no way affects the marek's vaccine.
If you have your chicks vaccinated for coccidia and feed the medicated feed, all you've basically done is wasted your money on the C. vaccine. The feed null and voids it.

My understanding of vaccines is that they prompt the body to produce antibodies to a particular disease. Coccidiostats in feed, amprollium being the most common, work by attacking the protazoa itself not antibodies to the protazoa. That said I don't see how medicated feed would affect the working of a vaccine.

Actually NYREDS, I am going by instructions printed in Murray McMurray's catalog regarding the coccidiosis vaccine and what's been posted here on the forum.

so what I am getting out of this is that it is OK to feed medicated feed to chickens that have been vaccinated for Mereks... I will continue with the medicated feed... I know everyone has their own "personal" opinions and I respect that but, I am getting the majority saying this will not affect the birds at all... and that is my main concern
