My mother hen is leaving her chicks and goes and lays eggs again. She leaves them for long periods of time. Is it time for her to go with the rest of the flock?

My mother hen is leaving her chicks and goes and lays eggs again. She leaves them for long periods of time. Is it time for her to go with the rest of the flock?

Hens don't understand the human concept of "family" Once a hen begins to lay again she is through with her current clutch. In her mind she has finished her mothering duties and it is time for her to move on. From here on out her former children become just chickens or mere rungs on the pecking order.

She has been gone all day. Don't know where she went? The chicks are hanging with another mom and her chicks. They are only a week a part.
