Is it TOO cheap? Christmas Help

I'm making cookies for my aunts, uncles, and cousins' kids. If they don't like it, tough, it's the thought that counts, right?

My SIL made us little baskets with jars of a seasoning blend and the recipe to go with it, with some extra recipe cards.

For the first time ever Im giving hand made gifts-not buying anything cant afford it. I m making the egg ornaments decorations-also traded alot of hatching eggs for Fudge-belts-jewlery-preserves-playscarfs-all from BYC members--love you guys!!!!

For years and years I had 6 children I was raising. There was no extra money for gifts for people so I baked. Every year I made something called a Christmas tree bread. It was a sweet roll dough in the shape of a Christmas tree. It was stuffed with brown sugar, maraschino cherries, and walnuts. On top was confectioners sugar. Then I would bake banana, cranberry, and other kinds of breads, and cookies.

When we got more financially stable, I started buying gifts. People were disappointed. They wanted my baked goods not my store bought gifts! So I went back to baking!

you know why? because its from the heart and they know it--I love being able to buy gifts but I honestly think-as Ive recently had no choice-creating something that you spent time on making means alot more to everyone.

I am making Italian Biscotti this year. Annissette, Almond, Wine biscuits, also double coco biscotti and mocha

It can be inexpensive to make, the biscotti are real easy, one makes two loaves, loaves are placed on a cookie sheet with , cannot remember the paper, it is the one used for baking, after loaves are baked allow to cool and slice. Wine biscuits are not made in loaves, I roll the dough. In fact, wine biscuits do not call for eggs. Now, with the annisette and almond, they do call for liquor and extract.

Not sure if this helps???

Saddina what Walmart sells 10# of sugar for only $3... that is SO not fair.

We did a LOT of painting this year... my son is in karate (Nana pays for that) and since neither of us cares for the smell of sweat socks we go next door to Creative Hands. It's a pottery shop. They have bisque and ceramics. You pick your thing (tiny ornaments up to huge bowls) and paint it with the glaze or acrylics (depends on what you want the item for) and then they fire&glaze or glaze respectively. Firing can't take home that day, but ceramics you can. 2-3x a week for the past several months has left us with a LOT of little ornaments, couple turtles (stepmom collects) and so on.

Most of the ornaments were a whopping $1-$3... but it is a hand painted item! For my SIL for example... they're a sports nut household... so there are four Santa boots, white on top as normal, sole is black as normal... but the center... She's getting the blue one with a silver star (Cowboys), hubby gets hunter green with gold star (Stars), Son gets Red with Fire Breathing Horse (Burn) and other Son gets orange with a longhorn (UT -bluh)... something pretty tailored esp. after adding names to the top, but each was only $2.25....

They have all sorts of ceramics and wood things (we've done those too before) at Hobby Lobby, etc. Check their sales if you like crafty idears.

And if what you need isn't on sale... well you can view and print a coupon!! 40% off any one reg. priced item!

As others said... those that matter, those that care, will understand that things are tight.
Only selfish people cannot contemplate not getting every little thing their heart's desire.

I am using one of those knitting looms in a circle and making stocking hats.
I know they will be loved by some, and adored by others. And it's e-z.

CHEX MIX! with tabasco! or Miss Prissy's 'trash' mix...
