Is it too late to consider hatching?

So sad today. Had ordered marans and golden lace wyandotte eggs that were set to arrive the last week of May. They called today to say that they didn't really have any of these varieties and suggested several substitutions. Chose to cancel the order because I had my heart set on these 2 breeds. Should I bother trying other places, or is it too late in the season to really do this:(?

check BYC auction forum. There are Marans eggs for sale now. They must be better quality than the hatchery you ordered.

As long as you have a brooder location that works during cold weather and a back-up plan if the power goes out, there's no reason not to incubate year-round.

Hey, it's only May. Some of us are just getting started! In Louisiana you should have plenty of warm weather left. Go for it.

Thanks everyone. That is very encouraging so I will look for another source. I really was depressed all evening yesterday. Even my family will be happy since I have already invested in all the chicken paraphernalia and it's all over my dining room.

Sportchick, First my hat is off to you for not settling for something you did not want.
Second, not even close to to late. spring is for things like chicks hatching and last I checked it is still spring. summer is still a pretty good time for it and even fall gets it's fair share. you can make winter work but takes a bit more effort and care. but since we are the masters of all thing artificial. We can make spring time in a box any time we want. Keep on truckin and welcome to the reality of chicken keeping.
