I've just been a lurker here for awhile, so I'm firstly gonna say "Hi!".
Now......
Today is day 21 of my black maran incubation, I had my first chick of the batch hatch yesterday morning without a hitch. Yesterday afternoon, I had one pip and unzip part way. Against my better judgement today... I grabbed the egg and found the poor little thing developing shrink wrap, even the remains of the yolk sac had dried and fused his head to his belly... I moistened and assisted with the hatch, I'm glad I caught it but now I'm kind of stressing about my hatch (and my new chick). My hygrometer said humidity of 65-70% (I've been struggling with humidity for my last 2 hatches), but after the chick drying out I added another sponge and upped it to 85%. So my question, is it too late for my unpipped chicks, or do they still have a chance now that I bumped up the humidity???
TIA,
Christina
