Hi all,
I purchased three yearling EE hens from a woman and it took about three weeks before I saw an egg. It was greenish with brown speckles. Over the next 10 days I got 7 more, one of them a double yolker, but since I was getting only one egg a day I wasn't comparing shell color. The last one, though, was baby blue, very different from the others, and smaller, too.
When I looked at the eggs together in the carton, I saw:
3 greenish with light brown speckles (one the double yolker)
3 plain greenish, no speckles
1 baby blue
If it's true that hens' shell colors don't change, then wouldn't this mean all three of the EEs have now laid? Or is that bogus, and one girl could be laying all three colors?
Three speckled on the top, plain greenish and plain baby blue middle row, and two used eggs (both speckled greenish) bottom row.
The three EEs. They're all smaller than my 20-week old flock...maybe they are part banty?
