All of ours with red ears lay brown eggs and the one with white, lays white eggs. Same for my neighbor's girls.

Usually, but not always. Most red earlobed hens are brown egg layers, but there are exceptions like the Barred Holland, which has red lobes and is a white egg layer.

Silkies have sort of turquoise lobes and don't lay blue eggs.
